As a primary school supply teacher, you will be responsible for providing teaching support to primary schools on a temporary basis, covering for absent teachers or additional staffing requirements. You will work closely with other members of the school team to ensure that pupils receive a high-quality education in a safe and nurturing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivering pre-prepared lesson plans to pupils of varying ages and abilities across the primary curriculum.
  • Adhering to the school’s policies and procedures, including behavior management, health and safety, and safeguarding.
  • Promoting positive behavior management strategies to ensure that pupils are well behaved and engaged in their learning.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, parents, and staff members, communicating effectively and sensitively with all stakeholders.
  • Preparing resources and materials for lessons as required, ensuring that they are appropriate for the pupils’ needs and age group.
  • • Monitoring and assessing pupils’ progress, providing feedback on their development and adapting teaching strategies to meet their individual needs.
  • Marking work and providing constructive feedback to pupils to aid their development.
  • Ensuring that pupils are supervised and cared for at all times, providing pastoral support where necessary.
  • Attending staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Undertaking other duties as reasonably requested by the school.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the primary curriculum and the ability to deliver pre-prepared lessons across a range of subjects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and staff members.
  • Strong behavior management skills, with the ability to promote positive behavior management strategies and deal with challenging behavior.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to work in a variety of primary school settings and adapt to new situations quickly.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and the willingness to undertake further training as required.
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude towards teaching and working with young people.

Working Conditions:

  • Primary supply teachers may work in a variety of primary school settings, including mainstream primary schools and specialist provisions.
  • The role may involve working on a temporary or ad-hoc basis, covering absences or additional staffing requirements.
  • Working hours may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on the needs of the school.
  • The role may involve standing, sitting, bending, and lifting resources and materials.
